modding PAL cart to NTSC
I thought I saw somewhere a long time ago that you can take a PAL nes cart and mod it somehow so that it runs at NTSC speed on an NTSC NES. Is this possible or was it some kind of wonderful dream?

First, Depending on if there is a NTSC equivlent of the game, You need to extract all of the the NTSC music engine and replace the PAL music engine with the NTSC one. I did that while hacking Ufouria to NTSCbluej774 wrote:I thought I saw somewhere a long time ago that you can take a PAL nes cart and mod it somehow so that it runs at NTSC speed on an NTSC NES. Secondly, Disable the CIC Lockout chip by removing it. There is a document on NESWORLD: http://www.nesworld.com/universalnes.php
And then after the ROM is done, remove the INES header and split PRG and CHR (Use a tile editor to determine where CHR is, if no CHR, it has CHR-RAM), make your EPROMs or whatever you perfer, desolder the original CHR and PRG rom and resolder the new roms to their places
EDIT: CHR Replacement is optional.
Instead of hacking the sound system like suggested (shrugs), maybe what would make more sense is to take the JP version and figure out how to add extra live by hacking the rom. Or if you put your FC cart in a game genie, you could do the same once you find the right codes.bluej774 wrote:The reason I ask is because I'd love a NTSC copy of Mr. Gimmick! and the proto is super rare. I couldn't find a dump of it. I would just grab the fc version, but 3 lives is beyond rough for Gimmick.
Just some suggestion thought.
