As wished in http://nesdev.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=4918 we at PDRoms want to show our support for the NES scene (and also other retro hardware) by helding our ninth coding compo.
We don't insist you to add our logo or the logos of our sponsors in your prog, you keep all rights and can do whatever you want. We tried to keep everything as developer friendly as possible.
after all the request in the other thread changed my mind to make another compo, so i hope the ones who were begging for such a compo will also do something small

I didn't hear about this until this Monday, so I am pretty late on the ball, but I am planning to enter some type of NES puzzle game. I am thinking a PuzzleQuest style vs. game would be pretty swanky. I already have a prototype in Python/Pygame up to see if its feasible to make it look good with the palette restrictions, now its just a matter of getting it done!
Also, I know the Judges are all pretty well experienced and know how difficult/easy each system is to homebrew on. Will judging be partially based on actual tech demonstrated? Like writing a game in C for the GBA using the OAM and nice 256-color backgrounds vs. writing the same game in ASM on the NES using the limited PPU palette system? I suppose some people can write ASM just as well as C, but for me its a pretty big challenge.
nes is usually harder to code as gba, so of course the judges are aware of this. as said, they are all pro's and gamedevs themself. dox is into the gaming industry since ages and has coded lots of commercial games, so he knows how painfull assembler is
Gah real life has averted my time again. I'm definitely not going to have time to finish my NES Bejeweled clone in the next couple of days for PDRoms 4.01.
But the good news is I am now a home owner, I have a clean garden (Was full of weeds when I moved in), a new water heater, and I'm officially growing up !_!
I am still planning to get my Bejeweled clone up at some point or another, but thanks for hosting the compo Kojote! I always love the stuff that comes from PDRoms.
I never get the reaction I expect from people when I tell them I'm still into 8-bit NES. The reaction I expect is "aren't you too old for that!?"
I just pulled about 500 dandelions up out of my yard...welcome to home ownership. (I did it partly so my neighbors wouldn't be pissed at the invasion into their yards from mine, but mostly for occupational mind numbing therapy!)
Yeah, the deadline is today, and I'm not sure if I'll have enough time to get get my entry finished up. A combination of procrastination, programmer's block, and life kinda caught up to me. :S
Oh well, even if I can't finish it in time to enter it into the compo, I'll still release a demo of it here.

We reeeaaally need to find a way around those 2 things.
Yeah, really. x_x
Then again, considering I'm only just one person, and I'm currently going through some summer courses at college, it kinda makes a bit more sense that the free time I thought I'd be programming in would turn up being the free time where I just want to sit down and take a break. x_x
