Hey,
I got this SJROM board and I was looking to add CHR RAM to it to make a FF2 cart. Is this feasable?

Doesn't SJROM already have CHR RAM?

I tried dropping a 6264 into the chr rom and it didn't work

I know the board is good and so is the ram.

The mod might work but you'll need to do a bit of rewiring, especially for the /WR pin of the RAM.
And with the powerpak out for some time I don't see why there is still SO many people asking how to do mods... anyways.

Of course it's "out"; retrousb.com is often "out" of stock.

I ask these questions cause I'm dirt poor and the only way I can even build carts is to work with what I have. Not everyone can afford a powerpak (as much as I would love to own one

)

That's strange because the money spent on a EPROM programmer, EPROMs, and donor cartridges I could easily see that adding up to more than the cost of a PowerPAK fairly fast. I suppose it depends ofcourse on the number of games more than anything else though.

Most of my cash goes to my children. Daddy only gets new toys (like a powerpak, burner, ect) on a much less frequent basis). Doing stuff like making due with moding boards, ect makes a good substitute in the meanwhile

I might just have to pawn off a few repro's and buy one of those powerpaks.

Still hood to know all this stuff none the less.

Yeah that's what I was thinking.
Not counting that you are lucky if you live in USA you can get low port price and taxes, I had to pay about $20 to port to my country and $30 of import taxes. And still I don't find it THAT expensive, even with all that adding up to the price it's not even the price of 2 brand new games here.
Another problem is that my powerpak seems to have problems with my small 16MB CF card so I'll probably have to buy a larger one in order to get it to work.

Children of what age? The right age to appreciate NES games?

Yeppers, He plays duck hunt and loves it (he's almost 6). MY Daughter is 17 and she prefers the new current gen games.

Oh poor little guy, having a sister 11 years older than you are is a torture, and I know what I'm talking about.
PS : Or maybe I just wasn't lucky.

At that point, it's time to buy a PowerPak and let him play games on it. There are a few polished homebrew games.
