Famicom cart port mod - Request for advice

Post by crade »

I would like to mod my NES so it can accept famicom carts.
I believe this should be relatively simple, but I am probably missing something since hardware is hardly my forte. Could someone let me know if this is destined to fail?

- scavenge a famicom connector off a famiclone
- run wires from either the nes connector the board directly to the correspinding famicom connector pins
- disable lockout chip

Thanks for any help!

Other than where to mount the Famicom connector, it sounds like it will be a very straight-forward mod. It should work just fine.

If you want FC carts to use the sound I/O pins, you'll find their NES counterparts on the bottom expansion port.

Yeah, there are some slight mechanical obsticles as well, but I should be able to handle that part.
