So will I.
For me it's clear: I want to focus on nesdev, not bootlegging games. So if I read the hardware and flash equipment forum it's because I want to see things related to deving.
I 100% agree. Especially considering there is enough info avaialbe arround, and that someone who has a bit of experience in electronics should be able to figure things by themselves. Other people shouldn't bother bootleging carts anyway.

So I'm a little bit bitter in the end. Maybe once the person saw this message he will check the simple message I sent, who knows

But for now, unless I know it's for a devcart, I may not be as nice anymore.
Very understandable, I think I also posted in regards to helping the same person. It really sucks when they are dinner and dash type of folks but you can only hope that some will stay and take their intrest to the next step and maybe hack a game, then god willing actually code *sometinng*. I know it's a stretch to think this will happen even 2 out of 10 times but hey, I guess I'm just feeling optimistic today

I know I started out as a noob not knowing jack about 5 years ago when it came to the atari machines, pinouts of chips, reading ASM or coding 6502 and now I've released my own work. So seeing as I'm a case of Noob to Dev at least in the atari world I can see it happening for NES too. Mind you the most I've been able to get together on the NES so far is how some of the simple mappers work and how to hack up existing games but I might one day make something of my own to share with the NES world or I might just end up posting yet another SMB1 hack who knows

Wow, it's a kind of revolution here, isn't it? Well, I don't mind people wanting to make repros/bootlegs, there are many good reasons for a person to do this: play games that are hard to find, games of other regions, homebrews, translations, hacks, etc. What bothers me is that nobody seems to do any research before asking. We see the same questions over and over, and this is the annoying part.

Yeah, we really need a FAQ for things like that.

Well as far as I can recall I've always been more insterested in developing games than playing them since I was 11 years old, maybe even before. I just completely lacked any programming skills.
And there is not much reason people who knowns nothing about electronics would want to open crack their carts and makes experiments. Emulators allow you to play games that are hard to find. With accurate emulation and NTSC filter there is NOT any reason not to use them, in fact even since I have a power pak I still prefer playing games emulated because of the better screen of my computer, NTSC emulation, reliable saves, no TV buzzing noise, no graphic glitches and flickering POWER button, etc...

Which makes me think that they think it's a good way to make a quick buck by selling bootlegs.

I seem to remember Bananmos putting it like this:
If I am developing a video game, and I know all players will use emulators, why shouldn't I just switch to a native framework like SDL or Allegro?

The NES is still a more controlled environment than all the flavors of Windows and Linux out there. Plus, if you are aiming for "that look", nothing is better than an emulator of a system with "that look" (although some people like to mimic some characteristics of old gaming systems while totally ignoring others when developing native PC games that look like old games).

Because your goal was not to make a video game in the pure sense of the word put to experiment on a specific platform. What is wrong with that? You can learn a lot from working on obscure platforms because of the limitation they have. In that case, the emulators can cut a lot of testing time and if people want to learn from it, they don't need to have that platform with the current state of technologies. Why would they? (and I think we derailed the main thread thought).
I got an answer from the person I helped for the VRCIV so at least I feel better about helping him. Maybe my concern in that thread helped

Thanks for the help I got it working the reason I wanted to make a repro of these games is because I am a collector and I dont really wont to pay 200.00 plus for these carts they are nice to have but not that nice as for playing them on a emulator I dont enjoy them as much as playing them on the orginal hardware and I am always up for helping people if I have the answer and some day I would like to do some Translation Hacks
of a few games

So where are the pics of your work and a simple explanation for others on how to do it? I think it's only fair to share

So after all this it's another case of "Dinner & Dash"?

Well then that user and their IP should be banned.

Let the guy be... If he doesn't feel like helping, so what? If you're really mad at him just don't help the next time he needs.
