Check out this flash game:

It allows you to play Super Mario Bros. with characters from several other NES games! Need I say more?

Feels really authentic ! Too bad the control suck with the german keyboards who have 'Y' and 'Z' swapped with english keyboards.... you can imagine it a pain playing it when the jump and attack buttons are far away.

I use to have a nice program for playing swf files that also could convert them to an exe, I think it was probably part of the Macromedia web development tools can't remember what it was called but it also included dreamweaver and fireworks. I no longer have legal access to, it was a wile back obviously. Too bad I don't have it, would be useful right about now.

If you open the swf in the Debugger Version of the Flash Player you have the option of converting it to an EXE (goto File -> Create Projector). Then you can use Versiown to modify the icon, menus, etc to make it look more like a standalone application.

EDIT: Except when the game hides the menu, which prevents you from selecting the "Create Projector" option. Well, I'm sure there is a workaround.
