Your personal Top 20 NES games

Post by Eightbit Allstar »

Topic about IGN's Top 100 NES games:
http://nesdev.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=6692

Instead of reading IGN's worthless crap, I'd rather like to hear what your Top 10 or Top 20 NES games are (non Famicom).

Mine would be:

1. Shatterhand
2. Probotector 2 - Return Of The Evil Forces / Super C
3. Super Spy Hunter
4. Laser Invasion
5. Mega Man 4
6. Formula 1 Sensation
7. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 - The Manhattan Project
8. Action In New York / S.C.A.T.
9. Kickmaster
10. Zen Intergalactic Ninja
11. Isolated Warrior
12. Super Mario Bros. 3
13. Blue Shadow / Shadow Of The Ninja
14. Bucky O'Hare
15. Street Gangs / River City Ransom
16. Ultimate Air Combat
17. Over Horizon
18. Journey To Silius

Okay, after some quick throught I came up with a list similar to this :

1) Final Fantasy III
2) Castlevania III - Dracula's Curse
3) Battletoads
4) Just Breed
5) Mega Man 5
6) Mega Man 2
7) Double Dragon II - The revenge
8) Contra
9) Super C
10) Mega Man 6
11) Mega Man 1
12) Final Fantasy 1
13) Fire Emblem Gaiden
14) Life Force
15) Conquest of the Crystal Palace
16) Radia Senki
17) Kirby's Adventure
18) Gradius
19) Uforia - the Saga
20) Rad Racer

Note that :
1 - This list sucks because there is many games of the same series, especially alongside eachother. This is because I'm equally fan of them and can't juge which one really deserves to be on the list more than another
2 - There is many games I've played that looked extremely cool but where I just didn't go too far into the game enough to juge them / or I didn't understand them because they're in japanese. Maybe they'd kick others out of the list if I played them longer. This include : Earthbound, Madara, Moon Crystal, Over Horizon, Surogo Quest, River City Ransdom, Power Blade, Fire Emblem 1.
3 - Yeah, "great classics" like Mario, Zelda, etc... are missing on purpose. Not that I have anything against those, they are just not my favorite NES games.
Useless, lumbering half-wits don't scare us.

I don't think I'd be able to make a list like that. It's very unlikely that I'll remember every NES game I have ever played, so I'd probably end up leaving something important out.

I could probably make a list of "games I really like" and from time to time add a new one I had previously forgotten about, but I'd probably not be able to order them by preference.

- No particular order:

Code: Select all

1. Rockman
2. CastleVania
3. DuckTales
4. Adventure Island
5. Rambo
6. Excitebike
7. Super Mario Bros.
8. Predator
9. Ghostbusters II
10. Tetris
11. Rockman 2
12. Rockman 4
13. Gremlins 2
14. Battletoads & Double Dragon
15. Metroid
16. Mike Tyson's Punch Out
17. Gradius 2
18. Power Blade
19. Darkwing Duck
20. Battletoads
- I could mention Super Mario 3, but it's too big for no saving system. Contra or Super C are cool, but kinda boring after a few minutes. Total Recall is an odd title, but worth the gameplay. I can't say the number of spent hours playing Ghostbusters 1: yeah, I know... but I beat the game. Another strange title is Northern Ken II.

- All those titles were played during my 10~18 years of age. ^_^;;

- My top 3 would be: Rockman, Battletoads and Metroid.

I don't consider myself to be a particularly "well-read" NES player, but I'll chime in anyway.

In no particular order:

Metroid
The Legend of Zelda
Super Mario Bros 3
Batman
Mega Man 2
Mega Man 4
Zen: Intergalactic Ninja
Contra
Super C
The Guardian Legend
Gimmick!
River City Ransom
Metal Storm

...and that's all that I can think of (that I've actually played) xP
