nes rgb video "jailbars"

Post by Drakon »

okay so I've modded a regular ntsc us nes with a rgb ppu. Everything works great except the graphics display big vertical lines. I've read about this issues on other forums and apparently it's very common. I was wondering if there's any good way to remove/reduce these lines? I would imagine it's a bit hard to find info on fixing this problem as most people probably wouldn't be bothered to add a rgb ppu to a nes

Right now I'm using http://www.gamesx.com/grafx/pce_rgb.jpg <- this amp to brighten the dark picture. Works great, except for the lines.

The amped rgb signal goes into a rgb to s-video encoder to my tv. This encoder works flawlessly with my snes, genesis, and arcade boards so I don't put the blame on it.

I've noticed light jailbars on my C1 too... Probably a weak signal path like on the NES-101. Maybe it's a PPU rev thing, but I can't say for sure.

yeah the problem doesn't seem to be from the ppu or my amp. I was wondering if anyone knows what trace it is. My nes pcb is copyright 1987 so it's probably a fairly old version

*edit* I fixed it. Here's the log
