the US National Cancer Institute has estimated that 29,000 americans will get cancer as a result of the CT scans they received in 2007 alone.
I had no idea that CT scans resulted in cancer. Obviously, if you put someone inside one and nuke 'em for a few days that would not be good. But a single scan resulting in a fraction of a percent chance to get cancer?
(btw, the understandinguncertainty blog is really neat. If you like the documentary 'Freakonomics', I would recommend trying this blog too).
We just got another big earthquake in japan... On Japanese scale it was 6, strong one, 7.4 magnitude. Tsunami are coming but hopefully they will be smaller but still... It's on the news now. I won't sleep well today.
In Tokyo it did shake but not as much as on the 11th.
Just came on to wish you well again! Terrible things happening, hopefully it will stop soon and you guys can recover from it! Sorry about all this crap, good thing it seems your family is safe, though.
I hope so... I want to be programming on my nes projects again, not focus on missing food and water, nuclear radiations, voluntary electricity blackout and now big earthquakes again.. And I'm not in the north and have to worry about many things..
edit:
If people want's to know who was affected and where by it:
