1MB MMC5, can the NES handle it?
From what I understand the MMC5 can handle 1MB PRG, but I don't think I've ever seen a game that was big. There is one old fan translation of FF3 that has 1MB PRG, but it doesn't work on Nestopia.
There's no limit to the amount of PRG/CHR that the NES can handle.

Well, Nestopia actually emulates that bug, which is a GOOD THING.Dr. Floppy wrote:Is that DMC-triggered false-positive joypad strobe thing particularly bad with NEStopia? I encountered it earlier today, and it made me most vex...qbradq wrote:Don't test with Nestopia.

I believe the MMC5 pinout shows an address line to PRG for a ROM as big as 1 Megabyte. I'm not sure if the ROM socket on any PCB has it connected though. Why do you need 1 Megabyte of PRG? You can accomplish this with MMC1 being wired similar to SXROM/SUROM. Or by wiring up a UxROM type board to have more PRG register bits.
And you can get more then 1MB is you then use the CHR-ROM lines to switch the 512K banks, and then just use CHR-RAM.MottZilla wrote:I believe the MMC5 pinout shows an address line to PRG for a ROM as big as 1 Megabyte.
