The game functions on SNES9X 1.5 through 1.53. On SNES9X 1.43, it starts up, but you can't control the main character (we're looking for ability to run on hardware anyways, if I remember correctly).
I got the game to run successfully on the versions of bsnes that I had from 0.5 through 0.3.8. The reason why I didn't go earlier is... well, I had Emulator Enchancer installed, and it didn't support something that far back. I have one version earlier than 0.3.8 that I could not test.
By the way, you have successfully demonstrated the rotating sprites that you were mentioning.
