is there any way to play famicom disk system on an NES system? Obviously, due to the shape of the RAM adapter, it won't physically fit into the NES even with an import adapter, and I really don't feel comfortable with having the lid on the NES off. I have an RGB NES so getting a famicom just for FDS really isn't an option (I personally have no idea where to get an RGB modded famicom, even if it were possible)

any ideas are appreciated!

I am well aware the PowePak plays FDS games. However, since I have an actual FDS system and disks (just my personal preference, especially since I can write my own FDS disks), I am really looking for a solution to use my FDS system on my NES.

Basically what Tepples said is your option. You need to just route outside of the NES with a Famicom port. You could actually modify a NES cartridge and have a cable coming out of the top of the cart (that would stick out of the NES) with a 60 pin Famicom connector on the end which you could plug into the Disk System Adapter.

Another thing to do, but with the RGB mod its not likely you'll do this, is to just take a RAM adapter and hardwire it to a spare NES. Then route the Drive Cable out the back.

I guess there is FC->NES adaptors with a long flat cables for this purpose, although they are rare.
