Games with the protection may be doing various PPU checks, possibly including a check for 50 Hz or 60 Hz
On the SNES they just do one check (though they might have it in multiple places throughout the game): bit4 of $213F. Perhaps there are titles in the SNES library that counts CPU cycles during vblank or something like that, but I've never come across that.

Google SUPER FAMICOM.

I also despise the USA console just as much as you do.

Just mod your console or get a cheat device to get around the checks. This is nothing new. Or get a Super Famicom. Do you have a Game Genie or Pro Action Replay?

A PAR wouldn't help, as it only allows RAM codes AFAIK. To fix the PPU version checks he'd need a Game Genie.

Pretty sure SNES PAR can patch ROM too. I have an AR MK3 for SNES, I could try that out, but I'm pretty sure it works.
