Castlevania 3 (japanese) with VRC6 sound to unmodded NES

This is exactly what I did to my Famicom -> NES converter cart.

Might be a good modification for the PowerPak too.

Wouldn't soldering a resistor in your NES and a wire in the convertor have been easier? Though I suppose this way you can use any NES console, including a top loader which I don't know how you audio mod those.

Yes, modding your NES would definitely be simpler. Also works for all famicom carts to ever has extra audio without modifying the carts (including the FDS).

For toploaders, it's extremely simple but you just need to use another pin, because not all expansion pins exists on the connector :

This is an interesting solution. Makes it possible to use by anyone on any 72pin NES. Your average person isn't going to open up their NES and do a mod involving soldering. Of course your average person isn't going to make a US Akumajou Densetsu with this mod either. And of course your average person isn't on this forum... But hey, still interesting and a good solution IMO. Looks like a nicely finished product!

Cool! This idea did cross my mind at one time so nice to see someone actually going all the way to make it work for real :)

I think it's a really clever way to make compatible NES-compatible Famicom repros, or having sound in your own homebrews if you really want to use an existing Famicom soundchip. All the unused sound capabilities in the MMC5 Koei carts also come to mind... how much work would it take to mod one of those with this solution? That sure could motivate producing this passthrough cable in multiple quantaties for sale.
