SNES Hyper Beam

Has anybody pulled apart an SNES Hyper Beam receiver? I recently purchased one of the controllers, but it came without a receiver and I'm interested in trying to build one. Looks like your basic I/R remote transceiver setup, but I'd be interested in seeing some pics of the innards of an official receiver if possible.
