I ask this because I heard some notes of this on the ending credits to the X-Men (2000) film (I can't find the music or any videos ).

At first I thought you were talking about the cartoon theme (which was pretty cool, BTW). I don't remember what the movie theme is like...

I definitely hear the similarity... but I know nearly nothing about music! =)

I should've probably asked this question 6 or 7 years ago (when I watched this movie on DVD). I immediately made the assumption that they both came from the same source.

But then I looked into X-Men & realized there was no prior film before this, no prior video game before the NES, & the first animation was the 1989 pilot "Pryde of the X-Men." So where could this source have come from?

I'm impressed If Michael Kamen went out of his way to lift this short chord progression from the game, because it sounded pretty iconic to me.
